In 1977 or 1978 I didn't have a record player.
( CD players had not appeared yet. )
Since those days I began to listen to ONJ's music and others.
So firstly I listened to the music by cassette tapes.
Though I don't know what becomes of the 'music tapes' now, in those days
such tapes were far from hi-fi in my opinion.
(Although they were evolving at an incredibly high tempo then...)
Usually they were normal-typed tapes. I already know that the metal-typed
tapes with Dolby noise reduction system have the sufficient sound quality, so
I wished that they were provided with metal tapes.
Normal tapes were full of hiss noise and the sound quality was relatively
poor.
Furthermore they costed as expensive as LPs! In some cases they were even
more expensive than LPs!
There is a problem of the pitch, that is the speed at which tapes run.
Analogue tapes run at the correct tempo only when they were run as fast as
when they were recorded.
There is another problem of the audio devices.
Better devices you use, better sound quality you get.
As to analogue this applies extremely.
In only one thing cassettes excel. They don't have noises that the vinyl
inevitably have, which arises from the dust in the ditch and the static electricity.
Now that CD has appeared, this advantage has lost its meaning.
Now let's get back to ONJ.

***COMMENTS***
The sound quality of this
tape is for some reason or other very poor.
Perhaps Toshiba EMI used the bad master tape which might have been the 5th or 6th generation tape. And the tape itself I bought is so old that the ability of it has perhaps little comparing to later tapes. Remember that in those days in Japan cassette tapes evolved in a incredible tempo as I mentioned above. Among the tapes I bought only this tape doesn't include a lyric. |
